The Raptors training camp does not open until Oct. 1, but head coach Sam Mitchell seems to be in mid-season form in terms of being grumpy.

In a conference call with members of the European media yesterday, Mitchell did not seem over the moon with the idea of the Raptors holding training camp, and playing three pre-season games, in Europe this fall.

The 25-year-old point guard, who’ll once again back up starter T.J. Ford when training camp begins next week in Italy, said Thursday he’s not about to start demanding more minutes or increased responsibility.

However …

“I know my role in the team,” Calderon said on a conference call Thursday morning. “(But) I’m going to keep working hard to make a more difficult decision for (coach) Sam (Mitchell).

“I’m just going to try to be a little better player for the team.”
